How do I register for the Canadian MAiD Curriculum?

What is the registration fee?

Clinicians (licensed physicians and nurse practitioners) can enjoy free access to the curriculum during their initial 12 months of enrollment until March 2026. If you wish to extend your access beyond 12 months, a $50 Learning Management System (LMS) user fee will be applicable for learners.

How long will I have access to the curriculum?

Upon registering for the curriculum, you will be granted one year of access to the Learning Management System (LMS) from the date of your registration. You may extend your LMS access beyond 12 months by paying a $50/year user fee. We will notify you 30 days before your access to the curriculum is set to expire.

How much time is required to complete all topics of the curriculum?

The curriculum includes approximately 13 hours of online self-study and 14 hours of facilitated sessions. For a breakdown of the time commitment and credits per session, click here.

Can I take the Curriculum topics out of order?

Learners are encouraged to take the Topics in order from foundational Topics (Topics 1, 2, 3, and 5) to more advanced Topics (Topics 4, 6, and 7). 

I want to register for a session of a program that is not where I am located. Can I do that?

Yes, you can. Fall 2024 – Winter 2025 sessions are organized by region to ensure coverage of all CMC Topics for learners nationwide. While we recommend attending sessions within your own jurisdiction, you are welcome to choose any session that aligns with your schedule.

– Atlantic Program: Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Prince Edward Island (PEI), Nova Scotia (NS), New Brunswick (NB)

– Central Program: Ontario (ON), Quebec (QC)

– Prairie Program: Alberta (AB), Manitoba (MB), Saskatchewan (SK)

– West Coast Program: British Columbia (BC)

– Territories & Rural Program: All of Canada, dedicated to learners from rural communities

– French Program: All of Canada, with sessions facilitated in French only

Please note that you may only register for yourself and one session per Topic at a time.

Can I attend an English session and access pre-learning in French if that suits my schedule better?

Yes, please let us know at cmc@camapcanada.ca, and we can provide you access to pre-learning material in either language.

Do I need my clinician license number to register?

Yes. License numbers will be used to confirm your MD/NP clinician status with the associated organization (RCPSC, CCFP-CMFC, NPAC-AIIPC, CMQ)

The facilitated session I wish to register for is full, is there a waitlist?

Yes. When a facilitated session is full, the registration form will show a waitlist status. You will be added to the waitlist, and we will reach out to you should a seat become available.

I am a medical student or nursing trainee, can I register?

Anyone may register for Topic 1: Foundations of MAiD in Canada here.

Topics 2 to 7 are currently available only to licensed physicians or nursing practitioners. This limitation will be reconsidered after our curriculum launch is complete in the new year.

I am an allied health worker or a medical/nursing student (I am not yet an MD/NP), can I register?

Anyone may register for Topic 1: Foundations of MAiD in Canada here.

Topics 2 to 7 are currently available only to licensed physicians or nursing practitioners.. This limitation will be reconsidered after our curriculum launch is complete in the new year.

I am not an allied health worker, a medical/nursing student, or a licensed MD/NP (i.e., I am a member of the public), can I register?

Anyone may register for Topic 1: Foundations of MAiD in Canada here.

I am an International Medical Graduate (IMG) physician not yet licensed in Canada, can I register?

Anyone may register for Topic 1: Foundations of MAiD in Canada here.

Topics 2 to 7 are currently available only to licensed medical or nursing practitioners.

What resources will I be given?

Once you register, you will be granted access to a downloadable file for the online self-study module. You will have access to the Resilience and Reflection Backpack and glossary of terms.  Once you complete the facilitated session (in person or virtual), you will be given access to a downloadable file of the facilitated session slides.

CURRENT LEARNERS

Where can I find the Zoom link for my virtual session?

You’ll receive the Zoom link via the email address you used to register, 24 hours before your session. Please remember that this link is exclusively for registered participants and should not be shared.

We’ll also send you reminder emails as the session approaches. If you don’t see these emails, please check your spam or junk folder. If you have any questions, feel free to reach out to us at cmc@camapcanada.ca.

My Learning Management System (LMS) account has expired after 12 months of enrollment. What do I do?

Registration for clinicians is free for the first 12 months, thanks to financial contribution from Health Canada. After the initial year, a $50 fee will apply to extend your LMS access for another 12 months. You will receive an email with instructions on how to extend your access when your enrollment expires.

I received an email that my facilitated session has been cancelled/rescheduled. Why is that the case?

Uncommonly, facilitated sessions may need to be rescheduled due to teacher availability or insufficient session size. If the new date conflicts with your schedule, please inform us at cmc@camapcanada.ca, and we will suggest you re-register for another session that suits your calendar. We apologize for any inconvenience!

I attended my facilitated session, when will I receive my certification?

Certificates for completed topics will be sent out to you within one week of the facilitated session date. If you have not received your certificate, please contact us at cmc@camapcanada.ca.

Who should I contact for technical troubleshooting or access issues regarding the online modules on the Learning Management System (LMS)?

Are there pre-learning prior to attending a facilitated session?

In order to attend a facilitated session, you must first complete the mandatory online pre-learning module.

How do I access my pre-learning for my facilitated session?

I’ve completed my pre-learning and registered for a CMC session, but my LMS account will expire before the session date. What do I do?

You can still attend the session, but please note that CME certificates can only be issued if your LMS account is active. Certificates are issued within two weeks of attending the session. Registering for sessions is free, maintaining your LMS account beyond the first year requires only a $50 user fee for 12 months of access.

I registered for an in-person session, is there any way for me to attend remotely?

Currently, sessions are either fully virtual or fully in-person, there are no hybrid sessions offered at this time. Please let us know at cmc@camapcanada.ca if you are no longer able to attend a session. 

I cannot attend and wish to opt out/reschedule my session, what should I do?

Please let us know at cmc@camapcanada.ca if you are no longer able to attend your scheduled session. You are welcome to re-register for another session that suits your schedule. See the current facilitated session offerings here.

If I am unable to attend, can I watch a recording of the session?

Facilitated sessions are not recorded, and as a result, we are unable to provide session recordings. You are welcome to re-register for another session that suits your schedule. See the current session offerings here.

After I take a facilitated session, will I have access to any session materials?

Yes, you will be sent the companion guide (copy of the slides) via email upon attending a facilitated session. You may also download the Reflection and Resilience Backpack from your Learning Management System (LMS) at any time.

HOST A SESSION

I am interested in hosting a CMC facilitated session in my jurisdiction, how can I do so?

If you would like to organize a facilitate session in your community, please contact us here. We will be happy to assist with making the necessary arrangements.

Can I host more than one session on the same day?

Certainly! If you are interested in setting up a series of sessions, please contact us here, and our team will be glad to assist with arranging the sessions that best meet your community’s needs.

Who is the Curriculum intended for?

The Canadian MAiD Curriculum is appropriate for all clinicians. Licensed medical and nursing practitioners, with or without MAiD experience, are eligible to register.  

Medical and Nursing trainees are currently not eligible for this curriculum.

How long do I have access to the Curriculum or Topics?

After registering, you will have one year of access to complete all topics and attend their associated facilitated sessions. 

Starting in April 2024, prerequisites will be implemented within the curriculum. You will be required to complete foundational topics (Topics 1, 2, 3, and 5) in order to take advanced Topics (Topics 4, 6, and 7).  Register for the curriculum here.

Are facilitated sessions offered in French?

Is this curriculum accredited?

Yes, the CMC is fully accredited by Canada’s national medical and nursing colleges. The curriculum is accredited by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada (RCPSC), the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), and the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA).

The curriculum offers a comprehensive total of 81 credits for the CFPC, 27 hours of self-assessment for the RCPSC, and 27 CNA accredited hours for nurses.

How to claim credits?

After completing the mandatory online pre-learning, attending the facilitated session of a CMC topic and completing an evaluation form, a certificate will be made available with the language directing you to redeem the earned credits or hours with your professional college. You’ll redeem the credit or hour value in your MoC system.

How many credits can I claim per topic?

After completing a topic, your certificate will tell you how many credits you can claim as a maximum.

I wish to become a CMC Teacher, how do I get involved?

How was the Canadian MAiD Curriculum made possible?

CAMAP is able to develop and deliver the CMC thanks to funding by Health Canada. Their support enables us to offer the CMC at no cost to licensed physicians and nurse practitioners for their first 12 months, and at $50 cost-recovery fee for everyone else.
