We are the Canadian Association of MAiD Assessors and Providers (MAiD is Medical Assistance in Dying). At its core, our organization is made up of clinicians who provide MAiD services including assessment for eligibility and the provision of MAiD itself.
While we are predominantly an association of nurse practitioners and physicians (family physicians, hospitalists, internists, anesthetists, neurologists and more), anyone involved in the work or interested in supporting it is most welcome to join our community. This includes social workers, nurses, care coordinators, pharmacists, nurses, lawyers, researchers, administrators, pastoral care, and more. We are a diverse community from coast to coast to coast.
Our purpose is to support those who work in this new field of healthcare essentially through providing guidance and education both to those new to the delivery of MAiD as well as to those who are seeking to enhance and deepen their knowledge. We accomplish this through a variety of initiatives including guidance/best practice documents, a variety of regular educational events, active communities of practice, networking opportunities, and research. We also develop and deliver MAiD training workshops, offer mentoring services, and are essentially a community of subject matter experts.
The seeds of CAMAP grew from a small email group of eight colleagues in British Columbia who found their grassroots, collegial support for one another to be invaluable as they began their work in assisted dying in June 2016 when federal legislation first came into effect and allowed for the legalized provision of MAiD.
Learn MoreFrom our earlier days as an organization up until today, philanthropy has allowed us to support our members through education, training, mentorship, and our online community of practice.
Donors have been instrumental to our ability to carry out our mission, for us to be innovative and creative in serving our members, and for us to establish ourselves as leaders in MAiD in Canada.
