Topic 5: Providing MAiD

Comprehensive, three-part modules aimed to foster skill development and promote the implementation of best practices in the provision of MAiD.

This topic module is for healthcare professionals, nursing and medical students, and individuals working within healthcare who provide care directly to patients and are involved in the delivery of MAID.

Learning Objectives

  • Plan for MAiD provision.
  • Manage the practical and emotional aspects of MAiD provision.
  • Prepare the MAiD team, patient, family/friends for the provision.
  • Support the MAiD team, patient, family/friends before, during, and after provision.
  • Use a waiver of final consent.
  • Anticipate and manage adverse events.
  • Manage the post-provision period.
  • Reflect on the gravity of providing MAiD and the impacts on MAiD providers.
  • Identify resilience practices that can support a sustainable MAiD practice. 

Eligibility/Who can take this course?
You are eligible to access this course if you are:

  • A regulated healthcare professional (such as a physician, nurse practitioner, medical resident, registered nurse, pharmacist, social worker, or psychologist)
  • A nursing student or medical student 
  • A healthcare team member supporting patients or healthcare systems — including care coordinators, spiritual care providers, clinical ethicists, speech-language pathologists, allied health professionals (e.g., physiotherapist, occupational therapist), health care administrators, or volunteer in the end of life space.
  • An Individual who works in healthcare or community organizations that provide or influence care of patients and are involved in the delivery of MAiD

Direct experience with assessing and providing MAID is not essential for this course; however, experience working with individuals who have or may request MAID is recommended.   • To receive a certificate of completion, you must attend a facilitated session and complete the online pre-learning module. 
  • Access to the online course materials is available for 6 months from the date of purchase.
  • Session availability is limited and offered on a first-come, first-served basis.
  • Refunds are not available for scheduling conflicts or incomplete participation.
