Topic 1: Foundations of MAiD in Canada

An online, self-study module which includes an introduction to the major milestones in the development of MAiD law in Canada, the federal and provincial processes, eligibility criteria, and safeguards with respect to MAiD, and an ethics primer.

Learning Objectives:

  1. Identify the historical milestones and core features of Canada’s MAiD legislation.
  2. Identify the regulatory context for MAiD in Canada.
  3. Discuss the multidisciplinary roles that can support a patient who has requested MAiD.
  4. Discuss primary ethical issues encountered by clinicians in enabling access to MAiD.
  5. Identify diverse perspectives and reactions related to MAiD.
  6. Identify what resilience means for clinicians engaged in MAiD.
  7. Assess your own questions and concerns about MAiD and resources to support your engagement in MAiD.
