Topic 3: How to do a MAiD Assessment

A systematic approach outlining how to receive a MAiD request and prepare for and conduct a MAiD assessment. Particular emphasis is placed on the MAiD eligibility criteria and safeguards underlying all assessments, with a focus on assessor wellness.

Estimated Length: 2-hour online pre-learning + 3-hour facilitated session

Education Credits:  15 credits for CFPC, 5 hours Self-Assessment for RCPSC, 5 CNA accredited hours for nurses

The Canadian MAiD Curriculum (CMC) is the first nationally accredited, comprehensive, bilingual educational program to support the practice of MAiD in Canada.

At this time, the curriculum is only available to licensed physicians (MD) and nurse practitioners (NP). Therefore, only MD and NP clinicians can register for this session.

Fall 2024 – Winter 2025 sessions are stratified into programs by Canada’s regions, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all CMC Topics for learners nationwide. While we recommend attending sessions in your own jurisdiction, you are welcome to choose any session that fits your schedule.

– Atlantic Program: Newfoundland and Labrador (NL), Prince Edward Island (PEI), Nova Scotia (NS), New Brunswick (NB) – Central Program: Ontario (ON), Quebec (QC) – Prairie Program: Alberta (AB) , Manitoba (MB), Saskatchewan (SK) – West Coast Program: British Columbia (BC) – Territories & Rural Program: All Canada; dedicated to learners from rural communities – French Program: All Canada; with sessions facilitated in French only

Topic 3: Evaluation of the AMM

A systematic approach describing how to receive, prepare to assess, and then assess a request for MAiD. Particular attention is paid to the MAiD eligibility criteria and the safeguards inherent in all assessments. The issue of assessor well-being is brought to the forefront.

Estimated duration: 2 hours for online pre-learning + 3 hours for facilitated session
