Canadian MAiD Curriculum

In August 2023, CAMAP launched the Canadian MAiD Curriculum (CMC), the first comprehensive, nationally accredited, evidence-based educational program to support the practice of MAiD in Canada. This modular curriculum aims to educate new MAiD practitioners, advance the skills of existing MAiD practitioners, and help standardize the approach to care by supporting those who deliver MAiD care coast to coast.

The CMC is structured around 8 topic areas.

  • Topic 1: Foundations of MAiD in Canada
  • Topic 2: Clinical Conversations that Include MAiD
  • Topic 3: How to do a MAiD Assessment
  • Topic 4: Assessing Capacity and Vulnerability
  • Topic 5: Providing MAiD
  • Topic 6: Navigating Complex Cases with Confidence
  • Topic 7: MAiD & Mental Disorders
  • Topic 8: Reflection and Resilience

Topics 1 and 2 are online self-study modules and are open to everyone. Whether you are a healthcare professional, student, policy maker, administrator, or simply someone interested in learning more about MAiD in Canada, you are welcome to participate.
Topics 3–7 are facilitated, case-based discussion sessions with online pre-learning module(s). These topics are open to regulated clinicians and healthcare professionals who meet specific eligibility criteria. Please refer to eligibility requirements for detailed information.
Topic 8 is woven throughout Topics 1–7 and delivered as a handbook resource to support professional well-being and resilience in MAiD practice.
Within each topic, learners gain access to thoughtfully curated tools, resources, and case studies to support both their learning journey and real-world MAiD practice.

The curriculum offers a comprehensive total of 27 credits for the College of Family Physicians of Canada (CFPC), 27 hours of self-assessment for the RCPSC, and 27 CNA accredited hours for nurses.

The CMC is designed to meet learners where they are – whether you’re seeking foundational knowledge or advanced, practice-focused education. As such, eligibility and pricing vary by topic.
